#6 Men’s Lacrosse Battles to Double OT Win at Swarthmore

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The No. 6 York men's lacrosse team battled through a near two-hour weather delay and a late Swarthmore rally to earn a 13-12 double-overtime road win on Wednesday night.

Team Records
#6 York: 4-1
RV Swarthmore: 5-2

Highlights
Cory Bergmann netted the game-winning goal with 28 seconds left in the second overtime period after he found a crack in the Garnet defense and one-timed a shot on a feed from Davis Fisher. Bergmann led all players with five goals on the night and Fisher posted a game-high three assists to go along with a pair of goals.

Swarthmore went up by three with 3:08 left in the second quarter, but York jumped out in front with a seven-goal run to go ahead 12-8 with 14:15 left in the fourth quarter. After a 20-minute scoring drought, Swarthmore got back on the board early in the fourth quarter and added another to cut their deficit to two before the game went into a near two-hour weather delay.

When play resumed, the Garnet continued to roll and tacked on two more unanswered goals with Rex Mabbs, who scored the game's first goal, notching the tying goal with 4:31 left in regulation. York had an abundance of chances in the closing minutes and out-shot the Garnet 5-0, but Swarthmore goalie Drew Tyson stepped up with three saves as part of a career-high 21 saves.

The Spartans continued to turn up the heat in overtime as they mounted an 8-4 shot advantage through the two OT periods and their pressure eventually became too much for Swarthmore to withstand.

Up Next
The Spartans return home Saturday to take on Ohio Wesleyan at 3 p.m.

Notes
York improved to 2-1 all-time against Swarthmore since the series began in 2002 … the last two meetings between the two programs have both resulted in overtime wins for the Spartans … York is 3-1 all-time in double-overtime games … a 11-10 win over No. 17 Mary Washington was the last double OT game for the Spartans prior to Wednesday … Davis Fisher also had the assist on last year's overtime game-winning goal against Swarthmore.
