Spartan Win Streak Halted at Widener

YORK, Pa. – The York women's basketball team had their season-best three-game win streak snapped in a 65-59 loss at Widener on Wednesday night.

Highlights
The Pride stretched their lead to 10 points late in the first quarter and maintained it midway through the second quarter. The Spartans chipped away and took their first lead of the game when Breana Grim knocked down a three-pointer with 1:02 left in the first half to send the Spartans into the locker room ahead, 33-32.

York opened the third quarter on a 12-4 to go up by nine, their largest lead of the night, with 6:38 left in the quarter. The Pride whittled York's lead down to just two points by the end of the quarter and went on to double-up the Spartans in the fourth quarter, 15-7, to pull away with the win.

Grim was the lone Spartan to score in double figures as she racked up a season-high 20 points which led all players on the night. Alyssa Dougherty and Makenna Zimmerman led all players with eight rebounds each and combined for 14 points.

The Spartans close out the regular season on Saturday with a trip to Albright. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.

Notes
The Spartans are now 3-11 all-time against Widener with the Pride winning the last four meetings … York is now 2-9 away from home this season and the Pride are 9-1 at home … with the win, Widener clinched the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Commonwealth Women's Basketball Championship; York heads into the regular season finale in contention for the fourth and final play off spot.
