WASHINGTON, D.C. – The York College men's tennis team had a rough opening to their 2025 fall campaign on Saturday in Washington as they fell to the Catholic Cardinals 7-0 in a morning match.
The Spartans, who are coming off their first MAC Commonwealth championship last spring, lost a lot to graduation, leading head coach
Nate Gambino the task of replacing a majority of his lineup.
The Cardinals cruised to wins in the first two doubles match to secure the point. The Spartan tandem of
Andrew Smith and
John Shatinsky had a good doubles match as they pushed Catholic's Jay Harper and Nate Barish to a tiebreak in the third doubles contest.
The Cardinals cruised through the singles points as they captured all six in straight sets. Freshman
Parker Smith had a strong showing as he fell in the second singles match 6-2, 6-4 to Diego Roma.
York returns to action on Tuesday afternoon as they head to Altoona, PA to take on the Penn State Altoona Lions. The match is slated for a 3:30 pm start.
