YORK, Pa. - The Spartan women's volleyball team posted an opening day split with Elizabethtown and Penn State Mont Alto in a home tri-match on Friday.

The Spartans and Blue Jays slugged out a marathon first set with the Jays ultimately prevailing, 30-28. Etown's Lucy Stanek led all players with seven kills in the set, while
Morgan Nolte led York with four kills and two blocks. The Spartans defended the net well as they out-blocked the Blue Jays, 4-1.
York took the second set, 25-23, after battling through 14 ties and eight lead changes. Back-to-back hitting errors by Etown ultimately decided the set as the Blue Jays hit just .044 in the frame. Stanek again had a standout performance for the Jays with six more kills.
The Blue Jays never trailed or tied through the final two sets as they won both by identical scores of 25-12 to clinch the match.
York 3, Mont Alto 1
The Spartans claimed the first set against the Lions, 25-20, after trudging through eight ties and four lead changes. York ended the set on a 6-2 run with
Saniya Esters notching the clinching kill as she hit .750 with three kills in the frame.
York never tied or trailed on their way to a 25-18 second-set victory. Esters led all players with five kills with a .444 hitting effort for the Green and White.
Mont Alto turned the tables in the third set and led wire-to-wire to claim a 25-21 victory despite the Spartans owning a 12-10 margin in kills and outhitting the Lions.
The Spartans trailed by as much as seven early in the fourth set, but fought back for a 25-21 win to clinch the match. York closed out the match on a 6-1 run fueled by three service aces by
Liz Kerin who posted a total of five in the fourth frame.
