YORK, PA – The York College Athletic Department announced their 2024-25 William DeMeester Academic Awards as final grades have been processed and posted for the Spartan spring semester.
The DeMeester Awards recognize the male and female four-year student-athletes who have the highest cumulative GPA for their careers. The DeMeester team awards recognize the teams with the highest GPA during the current academic year.
The Spartans had another strong academic year as the department posted an overall GPA of 3.42 for 517 total student-athletes for 2024-25. York had 60 student-athletes with a perfect 4.0 GPA for the academic year. The Green and White had 55.3% (286) of their student-athletes achieve a GPA of 3.50 or above for the year while 80.6% (417) Spartans had a GPA of 3.0 or above for the year.
For the second straight year, the Spartan men's lacrosse team earned the men's team award with a 3.48 GPA for the year. The Spartans won the MAC Commonwealth championship and advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament on the field. Golf finished second with a 3.47 GPA as they also won the MAC Commonwealth championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. Baseball (3.44) finished third while soccer was fourth at 3.40.
On the women's side, cross country won the team award with a stellar 3.79 GPA. Golf was second at 3.77 while softball was third at 3.66. Field Hockey, the MAC Commonwealth champions, finished fourth at 3.65.
There were a pair of ties for the individual DeMeester Awards. Men's Basketball forward
Jackson Mascari and men's soccer forward
Noah Roche both concluded their Spartan careers with cumulative GPA's of 3.92 as sport management majors. Women's lacrosse standouts
Nesiah Bertram and
Zoe Kluegel shared the women's award with matching 4.00 GPA's. Bertram is business administration major while Kluegel is a civil engineering major.
All of the Spartan varsity programs finished the year with a team GPA above a 3.10. In addition to the classroom success, the Spartans won six MAC championships with titles in all three seasons. Field Hockey won their first title in the fall while men's basketball captured their first MAC Commonwealth title in the winter. The spring season saw men's lacrosse, women's lacrosse, men's tennis and men's golf capture league titles. York also finished 49
th in the Learfield Director's Cup, the highest finish for the department in school history.
