Mott Finishes Third in Discus at NCAA Outdoor Championships

The Spartan Thrower Earns Discus All-America Status for Second Time

GENEVA, Ohio – Spartan thrower Andrew Mott clinched All-America status in the discus throw on Thursday at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by the SPIRE Institute.

Mott finished third in the event to earn First Team All-American honors as he posted a top throw of 51.29m (168' 3") on this fourth attempt out of six.

Mott's third-place finish is the best finish of his career at the national meet after finishing 17th as a junior and seventh as a senior. The Spartan graduate student is now two-time All-American in the discus for his career, earning first-team honors both times.

Yakob Ekoue of Wisconsin-Eau Claire won the event with a winning throw of 58.17m (190' 10") which he posted on his final throw of the day. The senior is now a two-time national champion and a three-time First Team All-American in the discus. Gavin Fritsch of Wisconsin-Oshkosh took second with a top throw of 51.97m (170' 6") to edge out Mott by just over two feet.

Mott will represent the Green and White one last time as is set to compete in the shot put on Friday at 11:30 a.m.

For his discus career, Mott is a two-time NCAA All-American, three-time NCAA national qualifier, holds the overall Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) record and school record (55.57m), hold the MAC championship record (53.42m), is four-time MAC champion and a five-time MAC discus medalist.
