Fisher Sets Scoring Mark as Men's Lacrosse Outlasts Trinity

The Spartans earned an 11-8 win over the Bantams in the second round of the NCAA Tournament

YORK, PA – The sixth-ranked York College men's lacrosse team survived a spirited Trinity (Conn.) squad 11-8 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday afternoon in York.
The game was tied heading to the fourth quarter but the Spartans put together a run as they outscored the Bantams 4-1 in the final quarter to earn their berth in Sunday's third round. Junior Davis Fisher set a pair of new records for the Spartans in the win.
York improves to 17-3 overall while Trinity sees their campaign come-to-a-close with a record of 9-8.

How It Happened
The Spartans found themselves reeling early as the Bantams hit the Spartans with two goals in the opening five minutes of the game as Conley Bohan scored twice for Trinity. The Spartans finally got on the board 7:17 into the game as Cory Bergmann found the back of the net off a Davis Fisher feed. Bergmann's goal kick started a four-goal spurt that covered the final 7:43 of the first quarter. Nate Schilling, Gavin Gismondi and Bergmann scored the next three goals as York took a 4-2 lead to the end of the opening 15 minutes of play. Fisher assisted on the first two goals of the game as those two helpers push him to 100 for his career.
• Gismondi struck again to score the first goal of the second quarter to push the lead to 5-2. Trinity's Jon Krikorian halted the Spartan streak with his first goal of the game at the 11:27 mark. The Green and White took advantage of a Trinity penalty midway through the quarter as Bergmann tallied his third goal of the game and his fourth man-up goal of the year, pushing York's lead to 6-3. Bergmann kept rolling at the 4:41 mark as he recorded a goal off a pass from Nate Schilling, increasing York's lead to 7-3.
• In the first half, Trinity out-shot the Spartans 28-19 in total shots but the qualities of York's chances were better as the Green and White had a 12-11 margin in shots on goal. Both teams were a little loose with the ball in the first half as they each had 10 turnovers. The Bantams were outstanding at the X as they won 9-of-12 first half face offs.
• Much like the start of the game, the Bantams opened the scoring with a Bo Page goal 2:21 into the third quarter. Bohan scored his third goal of the day just over two minutes later as Trinity sliced the Spartan lead to 7-5 with just over ten minutes left in the third period. The third quarter run from Trinity reached three when Miles Harvey found the back of the net with 6:53 left in the period as the Bantams were breathing right down the Spartans' neck. The Bantams completed their dominant third quarter as they cashed in a man-up opportunity with eight seconds left in the quarter as Krikorian tied the game at seven.
• The Bantams had much better of the play in the third as they out-scored the Spartans 4-0, out-shot the Spartans 13-6 and had an 8-2 margin in shots on goal.
• The Spartans halted the Bantam run with a Coleton Mahorney tally 1:13 into the fourth quarter. The Bantams took little time in responding as Jake Connors found the back of the cage on a bounce shot 1:43 later to tie the game back up at eight. York recaptured the lead on a nifty give-and-go from Fisher to Blake Morton with 9:24 left in the game. The assist for Fisher gives him 101 for his career as he set a new career record for the Green and White.
• Fisher pushed the Spartan lead to 10-8 as he scored at the 8:02 mark off a pass from Colby Berard, giving York a little breathing room. Bergmann continued his big day with a harsh angle shot coming forward from the X to give York an 11-8 lead. The goal was Bergmann's fifth of the day. York closed it out to earn their 11th straight win.
