ST. DAVID'S, PA – The York College women's tennis team closed out their regular season with a 6-1 MAC Commonwealth win over Eastern University on Sunday in St. Davids, PA.
The Spartans improve to 8-5 overall and 3-2 in the league as they have clinched the third seed in next week's Commonwealth tournament. Eastern finishes their year 5-11 and 1-4 in the conference.
York captured the first two doubles matches to earn the doubles point.
Bri Serruto and
Maddi Haggerty combined to earn a 6-1 first doubles win.
Kennedy Conte and
Hannah Sult rolled to a 6-1 second doubles victory as the Green and White took a 1-0 lead in the match.
Serruto kicked off singles play with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Trinity Gruber in the first singles match. Sult earned a 6-2, 6-2 second singles win as the Spartans took a 3-0 lead. Haggerty earned the clinching win with her 6-1, 6-2 third singles win over Anisah Smith.
Conte kept the Spartan train rolling with a 6-3, 6-1 fourth singles win as the lead grew to 5-0.
Mia Leonhartt closed out the Spartan wins with a 6-4, 6-1 fifth singles win. The Eagles avoided the shutout with a sixth singles win from Kayleigh Achenbach.
The Spartans advance to face second-seeded Messiah University in the MAC Commonwealth semifinals on Wednesday afternoon. The Spartans and Falcons will square off at 3:30 pm in Grantham.
