GRANTHAM, PA – The York College women's tennis team saw their 2024-25 campaign come to a close as the Spartans dropped a 4-0 decision to Messiah University in the MAC Commonwealth semifinals on Wednesday in Grantham, PA.
The Spartans have their season end with a mark of 8-6 as the loss snapped their season-high tying four game win streak. The Falcons advance to the Commonwealth finals against top seeded Albright College on Saturday in Reading.
The Spartans were playing from behind early as they had just five players make the trip, giving the Falcons and automatic win in singles. With the match playing to result, they were going to need to be almost perfect to pull off the win.
The Falcons captured both of the contested doubles matches to secure the doubles point.
Messiah took a 3-0 lead with Kylie Walker's second singles win as she downed York's
Maddi Haggerty 6-1, 7-6 (7-5). The Falcons then closed out the match with a Katelyn Good fifth singles win.
The Spartans are slated to return their entire roster for the 2025-26 campaign which will kick off in September. Â
