Men’s Lacrosse Captures Regular Season Commonwealth Crown with Win Over Hood

YORK, Pa. - The No. 13 York men's lacrosse team secured the regular season Commonwealth title in convincing fashion with a 20-3 victory over Hood on Wednesday in their final home game before postseason play.

How It Happened
The Spartans posted a first quarter shutout without allowing a shot on goal while racking up five goals of their own. Five different players scored for York with Gavin Gismondi leading the way with two points on a goal and an assist.

York only allowed two shots in the second quarter to finish the first half with a 31-6 shot advantage and a 9-1 halftime lead. Gismondi led the Spartan offense with three goals and four total points, while Cory Bergmann led the way with three assists and Nate Schilling compiled three points on a goal and two assists. Brady Watts kept the momentum rolling in York's favor as he won eight of 10 faceoffs in the first 30 minutes.

The Spartans racked up another 5-0 goal margin in the third quarter on a 15-6 shot advantage with a 12-4 advantage in ground balls and a 5-1 edge in faceoffs. Schilling had a pair of goals in the third quarter to lead all goal scorers, while Gismondi added a goal and an assist. Goalies Nash Womack and AJ Apel combined for the third-quarter shutout.

York closed out the game by pumping in six more goals while giving up just two to the Blazers. Ryan Lord and Rhys McCarver each tallied a pair in the final period, while Joey Yukenavitch dished out a pair of assists.
