FAYETTEVILLE, PA – The York College men's golf team closed out their 2024-25 regular season with a third place finish at the Gettysburg Spring Shootout at the Penn National Golf Club in Fayetteville, PA.

York shot a two-day score of 597 as they finished five strokes back of team champion Gettysburg and three strokes behind F&M as the Diplomats placed second. Penn College finished fourth at 614 while Swarthmore placed fifth at 615.

The Spartans carded a first round score of 304 and then made a 11 stroke improvement on Saturday with a 293. York's Saturday round was the best in the tournament field.

Senior
Matthew Salter led the way for York as he finished second in the tournament with a one-under-par 143. Salter shot 74 on Friday and followed that with a three-under 69 on Saturday. Salter was one over on Friday's opening nine and he followed that with a one-over 37 on the back. Salter torched the front nine on Saturday as he was four-under at the turn. He was one-over on the back for his 69. The top five finish for Salter was the eighth of his career.

Fellow senior
Gavin Ganter finished third in the tournament as he shot an even-par 144 for the weekend. Ganter shot matching 72's on Friday and Saturday. On Friday, Ganter had two birdies and two pars on the front nine followed by seven pars, a birdie and a bogey on the back nine for his 72. On Saturday, Ganter had a rough start as he was two-over through five holes on the front but went on a birdie binge, ripping off four straight. He shot 35 on the front and 37 on the back. Ganter's top five finish is his ninth of his Spartan career.

Jason Velez was the Spartans' next finisher as he placed 16
th with a tournament score of 153. Velez was four-over on Friday with a 76 and he followed that with five-over-par 77 on Saturday. Velez shot 40 on Friday's opening nine. He finished with an even-par 36 on the back nine. On Saturday, he shot 39 on the front followed by a 38 on the back for his 77.

Thomas O'Connell was York's fourth scorer as he finished 34
th with a score of 158. O'Connell shot an 83 on Friday but made an eight-stroke improvement with a three-over-par 75. Freshman
Adam Gorman was York's fifth tournament participant as he shot a tournament score of 163 as he placed 42nd.

The Spartans are now off for two weeks until they head to Golden Oaks Country Club for the 2025 MAC Commonwealth Championships in Fleetwood, PA. The tournament kicks off Saturday, May 3 at noon. Day two will be held May 4 with the tournament champion earning an NCAA Championship Tournament automatic berth.
