OWINGS MILLS, MD – The York College Spartans picked up a big MAC Commonwealth doubleheader sweep on Friday afternoon at Stevenson University in Owings Mills, Maryland.
The Spartans won game 4-1 and completed the sweep with an 11-4 win in the nightcap.
York improves to 12-20 overall and 7-5 in the MAC Commonwealth. The Mustangs fall to 20-10 overall and 6-6 in the league.

How It Happened
• York got the scoring started in the top of the second.
Rylee Dreyer singled to left to score
Danella Silagy who was hit by a pitch earlier in the inning. Dreyer came around to score on an error as the Spartans took a 2-0 lead.
• The Green and White added to their lead in the fifth.
Jordyn Woodling singled to left and stole second. She came around to score on a
Gretchen Barstad double to left for the 3-0 Spartan lead. Barstad rode home on a
Kate Miller RBI single to center. The Mustangs broke up the shutout in the bottom of the fifth with a McKenzie Tobler sacrifice fly to left.

Natalie Rietema cruised from there as she had one of her best outings of the year. Rietema allowed one run on five hits with three strikeouts and four walks in her seventh win of the year.

How It Happened
• After the Mustangs retired York in the first, Stevenson scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame. Ava Stafursky singled with two outs to score McKenzie Tobler with the game's first run. Stafursky eventually came around to score on a Tessa Boswell RBI single down the right field line. The Spartans answered right back in the top of the second. With the base loaded,
Jordyn Woodling tripled to left center, scoring all three runners for a 3-2 Spartan lead. Woodling scored on a
Gretchen Barstad single to left as York took a 4-2 lead.
• York added a single run in the third on a
Rylee Dreyer RBI single to right. The Spartans poured it on in the fourth with a five-run inning.
Kate Miller started the scoring with an RBI single to right center.
Olivia Turchi had an RBI single to third, pushing the lead to 7-2.
Danella Silagy added an RBI single to left to score Miller. York then scored two more on a
Morgan Sauers sacrifice fly and a Mustang error for the 10-2 lead.
• The Mustangs cut into the lead with a Mykaela Getz RBI single in the bottom of the fourth. Stevenson added a single run in the bottom of the sixth with a Stafursky bases loaded walk to cut the Spartan lead to 10-4.
• York closed out the scoring in the seventh as Barstad ripped her fourth hit of the day, an RBI double to left center to scored Dreyer for the Spartans' 11
th run.

York is now 39-10 all-time against the Mustangs … York has won five straight in the series … the sweep pushed the Spartans up into the third spot in the MAC Commonwealth standings …York can't catch Eastern or Messiah for the one of the first two spots in the standings but they could secure a spot in the tournament as early as tomorrow when a number of Commonwealth games will be contested … the sweep of Stevenson was just the third Spartan sweep of the year as they previously swept Albright (March 15) and Widener (April 9) … the game one win snaps a four-game Spartan losing streak … York's 11 runs in game two marked the fourth time this year that the Spartans reached double figures in runs in a game …
