YORK, PA – The York College women's tennis team got back on the winning side of the ledger with a 6-1 win over McDaniel College in a non-conference match on Monday.
The Spartans snap a three-match losing streak as they improve to 5-5 for the campaign. McDaniel falls to 4-9 with the setback.
The Spartans won both of the contested doubles matches to earn the doubles point.
Bri Serruto and
Maddi Haggerty notched a 6-2 first doubles win for the Green and White.
Kennedy Conte and
Caraline Junkin posted a 6-3 second doubles win to earn the doubles point.
Mia Leonhartt and
Hannah Sult won by forfeit in the third doubles match as the Green Terror did not field a third doubles squad.
York won five of the six singles matches to roll to the non-conference win. Serruto outlasted Stephanie Buttons 7-5, 6-7 (7-4), 6-2 in the first singles match. Sult rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 second singles win for the Spartans.
Haggerty posted a 6-0, 6-0 third singles win. York won the fifth and sixth singles matches via forfeit to close out the match.
The Spartans return to action on Wednesday, April 23 when they host Stevenson in a MAC Commonwealth contest. The match is slated for a 3:30 pm start at the Myers Tennis Complex in York. The match will be the first of three to close out the regular season schedule.
