How It Happened
The Spartans suffered their third-straight shutout to start the season as they were limited to just three hits in game one of the day at Concordia. The Tornados scored in all six innings and managed to reach the eight-run advantage in the sixth frame to end the game early.

Concordia took firm grip early as they scored a pair in each of the first two innings and retired the first six Spartan batters in order.

The Spartans recorded their first hit of the game in third inning on a Danella Silagy single, but York squandered away the opportunity to get some runs on the board as they left three runners stranded. The Green and White scattered two more hits over the final three innings while the Tornados continued to score each frame to clinch their eighth win of the season.

GAME 2
York 9, Concordia 4

Pitchers of Record
WP: Natalie Rietema (1-2)
LP: Addison Lehew (0-1)

How It Happened
York battled back from an early deficit and the offense found its rhythm down the stretch which allowed the Spartans to cruise to their first win of the season.

The Spartans found themselves in an inauspicious start after the Tornados took a 2-0 lead and dispatched Spartan starter Kyrsten Coppage after just 0.1 innings of work. The York defense bowed their necks and  kept the damage to a minimum as they left three Concordia runners stranded in the first inning.

Each team scored a run in the second as Jordyn Woodling drove in Alexis McDonaugh for York's first run of the year. The Spartans took their first lead after scoring two runs in the second and retired the Tornados in order in the bottom half of the inning. Six-consecutive York batters reached base safely in the third as Emma Wade and Kate Miller picked an RBI each.

The Spartans extended the lead to 6-3 after racking up three runs on four hits in the fifth inning. After McDonaugh drove in Gretchen Barstad for the first run of the inning, Emma Keller and Woodling came through with a pair of two-out RBI singles.

The tandem of Wade and Barstad produced another run in the sixth as Wade doubled to drive in her teammate for the second time on the day. Wade later came in to score herself on a ground out by Keller.

The Spartans tacked on another insurance run in the seventh courtesy of a Tornado error. Concordia managed to scratch one more run across in the bottom of the seventh after going four-straight innings without a run.

Natalie Rietema picked up her first win of the season after pitching 6.2 innings in relief, surrendering just two runs on five hits with five walks and five strikeouts.

Up Next
The Spartans remain in the greater Austin area and head slightly north on Wednesday to take on Mary Hardin-Baylor in a doubleheader slated to start at 4 p.m. (ET).

Notes
Tuesday's matchup marked the first-ever meeting between the Spartan and Tornado softball programs … Jordyn Woodling led the Spartans with a .600 batting average on the day as she hit 3-for-5 with two RBI … Alexis McDonaugh and Emma Wade also had three hits while Wade led the way with three RBI.
