ABBOTTSTOWN, PA – The York College Spartan men's golf team finished third at the 2025 McDaniel Spring Invitational at the Bridges Golf Club in Abbottstown, PA.
The Spartans finished with a two-day total of 613. They led the tournament after the first round at 304 but tournament winner Gettysburg went low on Sunday with a team score of 293 while York shot 309. Gettysburg finished with a team score of 601 followed by Franklin & Marshall in second at 610. York shot 613, edging Dickinson for third place as the Red Devils shot 614. Farmingdale State rounded out the top five at 621.
Senior
Gavin Ganter led the way for the Spartans as he finished tied for tenth in the tournament with a two-day total of 152. Ganter fired a three-over-par 75 on Saturday and followed that with a 77 on Sunday. Ganter had a pair of birdies on Saturday and two more on Sunday as he finished six strokes behind tournament champion Daniel Suter of Gettysburg.
Senior
Jason Velez was the next Spartan finisher as he tied for 15
th in the 89-player field. Velez shot 153 for the weekend with a 78 on Saturday and a 75 on Sunday. Velez notched one birdie in the opening round but was hampered by a quad on the par three fourth hole. He played two over on the remaining 17 holes of his round. He notched a pair of birdies on his final four holes on Sunday to finish strong.
Junior
Jacob Fripp was tied with Velez as he also shot 153 for the tournament. Fripp shot 75 on Saturday and then 78 on Sunday. Fripp ended his Saturday round with a flourish as he birdied three of this final four holes of the round. Fripp had a birdie on each nine on Sunday for his 78.
Sophomore
Thomas O'Connell was York's fourth scorer as he shot 155 for the weekend. O'Connell shot 76 on Saturday followed by a 79 on Sunday. O'Connell's round on Saturday was highlighted by an eagle on the par five eighth hole as he shot 37 on the front. He had a birdie on the back as he was four-over for the day. He got off to a slow start on Sunday as he was five over through four but he was even over the remaining four holes of the nine. He was two-over on the back en route to his 79.
Freshman
Adam Gorman was York's fifth tournament participant as he finished tied for 26
th with a score of 157. Gorman shot 78 on Saturday and then carded a 79 on Sunday. Gorman ended his Saturday round with back-to-back birdies. He then recorded a trio of birdies during his Sunday round.
The Spartans return to action next weekend when they head to the three-day Camp LeJeune Intercollegiate Championship in Camp LeJeune, North Carolina. The tournament kicks off Friday and runs through Sunday afternoon. The tournament is being contested at the Paradise Point Golf Course.
