YORK, PA – The York College men's tennis team had their six-match win streak snapped on Saturday as they fell to Messiah University 5-2 in their MAC Commonwealth opener in York.
The Spartans fall to 6-2 overall and 0-1 in the league while Messiah is now 4-5 overall and 1-0 in the Commonwealth.
The Falcons captured the doubles point, winning the first and two doubles matches. The Spartan tandem of
Hayden Musser and
Drew Heinzelmann combined to earn a 6-3 third doubles match-up.
The Falcons won the first singles match before
Ben Dorsey earned a three-set second singles match as he beat Brady Hahn 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 to get York on the board. Messiah won the third singles match in straight sets. The fourth singles match was a battle as Elijah Noll outlasted Heinzelmann 2-6, 7-6 (7-5), and 6-2 to earn the win.
Musser earned York's second point in the match as he beat Timothy Sheaffer 5-7, 7-5, 6-3 in the fifth singles match. Messiah won the sixth singles match in three sets as Luke Risser edged
Ian Bartles 7-5, 5-7, 10-5.
Prior to the match, the Spartans honored their three seniors as
Ben Dorsey,
Evan Stehman and
Hayden Musser are each in their final year in the Green and White.
The Spartans return to action next Saturday when they head to Eastern University to face the Eagles in a MAC Commonwealth match. The contest is slated for an 11:00 am start.
