SELINSGROVE, PA – The York College softball team split a doubleheader against Susquehanna University on a cold Wednesday in Selinsgrove, PA. The Spartans won game one 11-5 before the River Hawks earned the split with an 8-0 win in five innings in the nightcap.
The Spartans are now 6-12 overall while the River Hawks are 5-11.

How It Happened
• The River Hawks opened up the scoring with a Katelyn Dugery RBI single in the bottom of the first to take the early 1-0 lead. York tied the game in the top of the second without the benefit of a base hit. York's run came on a
Jordyn Woodling RBI ground out.
• The Spartans took a 3-1 lead in the fourth as
Danella Silagy drove home the first run on the inning on an RBI single. The second Spartan run of the inning came on a River Hawk wild pitch.
• Susquehanna responded to York's two runs with three runs of their own to take a temporary 4-3 lead. Brianna Jones had an RBI triple in the inning while Susquehanna's other two runs came on a Spartan error with the bases loaded. The Green and White exploded for five runs in the top of the sixth. The uprising started with a bases loaded walk to
Emma Wade which tied the game at four.
Alexis McDonaugh followed with a two-run triple for the 6-4 lead. McDonaugh then scored on a wild pitch to give York a 7-4 lead. The Spartans reloaded the bases and scored their fifth run of the inning on another wild pitch.
• Susquehanna got a run back in the sixth as the River Hawks loaded the bases with one out. Alyssa Mayorca hit a sacrifice fly to center, cutting the Spartan lead to 8-5.
• York added some big insurance runs in the seventh as York had runners at second and third with one out. Wade delivered a two-run double to right to make it 10-5. McDonaugh continued her big day by driving in Wade with an RBI single to center, pushing the lead to 11-5.

How It Happened
• The Spartans fell behind early as the River Hawks hit the Spartans with a four-run first inning. A hit by pitch and two walks loaded the bases with one out. An infield single gave Susquehanna a 1-0 lead. Back-to-back walks followed by a sacrifice fly pushed the lead to 4-0.
• The River Hawks tacked on two more runs in the second, pushing the lead to 6-0. The Spartans finally got a base runner in the third as
Emma Keller drew a lead off walk.
Morgan Sauers then singled up the middle. After a sacrifice bunt moved Keller to third and Sauers to second, Susquehanna pitcher Brianna Jones got a pop up and a strikeout to end the Spartan threat.
• With two outs in the fourth, the Spartans got an
Alexis McDonaugh walk and a
Kate Miller double to put the two Spartans in scoring position. Jones again wiggled out of the jam with a strikeout.
• Susquehanna ended the game in the bottom of the sixth with a pair of runs for the 8-0 margin of victory.
