How It Happened
• The Cardinals opened the scoring three batters into the game as Mitchel Johnson doubled down the left field line to plate two Cardinals for the early lead. The Spartans answered with a five spot in the bottom of the first inning. A pair of walks put Spartans at first and third for Michael Tinneny who singled down the right field line to get York on the board. An Alex Neeld RBI fielder's choice tied the game at two. Jacob Deimling singled to put Spartans at first and second. Gabe Trevena walked to load the bases for York. The Cardinals went to the pen but York got three more runs before the end of the inning as York led 5-2.
• That lead was short-lived as Jack Bateman blasted a solo home run to lead off the second. After a fly out, Catholic drew a pair of walks to put runners at first and second. Johnson made sure they weren't there long with a three-run bomb to center to put the Cardinals up 6-5.
• Bateman struck again in the top of the third as he hammered a two-run shot to center as the Cardinal lead grew to 8-5.
• York chipped away with a single run in the bottom of the fifth. Tinneny doubled down the left field line to lead off the inning. He came around to score on a one-out Deimling single up the middle. York tied the game one inning later as Tinneny ripped a two-run double to center, knotting the score at eight.
• Again, the lead was short-lived as the Cardinals loaded the bases before Catholic broke the tie with a hit-by-pitch to make it 9-8. Another walk made it 10-8 before Stephen Thomas singled to left for the third run of the inning as the Cardinal lead was 11-8.
• Johnson closed out the scoring in the eighth as he blasted his second home run of the game, this one off the scoreboard in center for the four-run lead.
