YORK, PA – The York College men's tennis team made the debut of new head coach
Nate Gambino a successful one with a 5-2 win on a sunny but crisp Saturday afternoon in York.
The Spartans have now won four straight, opening the spring portion of the schedule with a victory. York is now 4-1 overall while the Seahawks fall to 1-3 overall.
The Spartans captured two of the three doubles matches to earn the point.
Jason Lutz and
Ian Bartles gave the Spartans the 1-0 lead with a 6-1 third doubles win. After the Seahawks earned a 6-4 second doubles win, the Spartans clinched the point with a victory from the number one tandem of
Parker Sanders and
Evan Stehman as they posted a 6-3 victory.
Sanders pushed the lead to 2-0 with a 6-4, 6-0 third singles win before the Seahawks got wins at number one and number two singles to knot the score at two wins each.
Stehman clinched the win for the Spartans with his 6-2, 6-4 fourth singles win.
Drew Heinzelman rolled to a 6-0, 6-3 sixth singles win before Musser closed out the match with a 6-4, 7-5 fifth singles win.
The win for Gambino was his first as the Spartan head coach after taking over the program in December.
York returns to action on Saturday, March 1 when they head to Middletown, PA to take on Penn State Harrisburg in a non-league tilt. The match is slated for a 1:00 pm start.
