Spartan Men Dial Long Distance in Win over Widener

The Spartans tied a season-high with 16 made threes in the victory over the Pride

YORK, PA – The York College men's basketball team stayed hot with a 91-64 home win over Widener University on Wednesday night in York. York has won six of their last seven games.
The Spartans began the game with six three pointers in the first 3:49 of the game to seize early control of the contest.
York improves to 18-6 overall and 11-2 in the MAC Commonwealth as they remain tied with Albright for first place in the league heading into the final weekend of play. Widener falls to 7-17 overall and 5-8 in the league as they have been eliminated from the Commonwealth post season tournament. York's win also secures a home game in next week's MAC Commonwealth tournament semifinals.

How It Happened
• The Spartans could not have scripted their offensive start any better. The Green and White went 6-for-6 from three to start the game as they sprinted out to an 18-9 lead. All six of York's early field goal attempts were threes and all six found nothing but the bottom of the net. Tate Landis drilled three of the six threes as he got off to a blistering start. The Pride got themselves to within two at 18-16 as they ripped off seven straight points midway through the half.
• York fashioned a 10-3 run as Kai Cipalla scored six points on the run as the Spartan lead grew to 28-19. Widener cut the Spartan lead to six on a Kevin Schenk bucket with 4:41 left but York outscored the Pride 12-4 over the final 4:15 of the half to take a 47-33 lead to the break.
• Schenk opened the second half scoring but the Spartans smacked Widener with a 16-6 run, kick started by two Jayden Rowe triples as the lead grew to 63-41 with just over six minutes into the second half. Widener scored the next four points on a pair of Matt Daulerio lay ups but the Spartans finished off the Pride with an 18-6 run to push the lead to 30 at 81-51 with 4:24 left in the game.
• York would maintain the lead above 25 points as they cruised to their ninth home win of the year.
