Spartans Capture Road League Win at Albright

READING, Pa. - The Spartan women's volleyball team notched a 3-1 Commonwealth victory at Albright on Tuesday night.

How It Happened
The Spartans jumped out to a 1-0 lead following a 25-8 win in set number one of the night. York never trailed in the set and hit .364 with 11 kills led by Liz Kerin who had four. The Lions could not get out of their own way as they hit. -.278 with eight errors to just three kills.

The second set resulted in a 25-23 Spartan victory after five lead changes and six ties. Morgan Nolte hit .500 led all players with five kills in the set while Alex Helm dished out eight assists for York. Saniya Esters notched the set-clinching kill as she finished with three in the frame.

The Lions did not go away quietly as they prevented a sweep by claiming a 25-19 win in the third set despite just nine kills and a .138 hitting percentage. Nolte had another superb performance for York as she racked up six more kills and swung .556 to go along with two blocks.

York closed out the match with a 25-16 victory in the fourth set. After eight ties and six lead changes the Spartans took control of the set with a 7-1 run fueled by a trio of kills from Nolte to give York a 17-10 lead. Nolte finished with four kills in the final set, while Maddie Hoffman handed out seven assists and Darby Stetter led the Spartan defensive effort with six digs in the fourth set.

Nolte led all players with a season-best 18 kills while swinging .485 to go along with a match-high four aces and a team-best three blocks. Hoffman led all players with 21 assists and Helm ranked second with a career-high 15 helpers. Sami Baer led York with nine digs, while Stetter and Hannah Runyard posted eight each.
