READING, PA – The York College field hockey team set a new scoring mark with a 10-1 win over Albright College in the MAC Commonwealth opener for both schools.
The 10 goals are the most by the Spartans in the
Katie Fost era and also the most for York in a MAC Commonwealth game in school history.
The Spartans improve to 7-5 overall and 1-0 in league play. The Lions fall to 3-8 and 0-1 in the Commonwealth.

How It Happened
• The first quarter was quiet from a goal scoring perspective but the Green and White spent the entire quarter in the Albright defensive zone. York fired off nine shots in the quarter with Albright goalie Mackenzie Bunn and the Lion defense recording seven saves in the quarter.
• The offensive floodgates opened for the Green and White in the second quarter.
Claire Burrows started the scoring onslaught with a goal just 2:14 into the period.
Kelbie Linebaugh made it 2-0 less than two minutes later with a goal off a pass from Burrows.
Bella Reiss recorded York's third goal of the quarter with a tally off a
Sam Ward helper for the 3-0 lead. York closed out the quarter with goals from Burrows and Linebaugh for the 5-0 halftime lead.
• Burrows continued a career day with her third goal 3:16 into the third quarter for the 6-0 lead.
Emma Pryor scored her first collegiate goal off another Burrows assist with just over ten minutes left in the third.
• The Lions broke up the shutout on a goal from Rayven Muller two minutes into the final quarter. York responded with three more goals over the final 15 minutes of play.
Haley Boyarski scored off a feed from
Kelsey Welsh for the 8-1 advantage.
Ana Kenst notched an unassisted goal for her first college tally with just under eight minutes left in the game. Reiss recorded her second goal of the game off an
Aliza Staub assist for the final tally of the day.
• The Spartans finished the game out-shooting the Lions 29-3 including 25-3 in shots on goal. York held a significant 17-4 margin in penalty corners. The Lions finished the game with 13 goalie saves from Bunn and two defensive saves for the game.

York is now 14-0 all-time against Albright … the five goals in the second quarter marked the highest scoring quarter of the year and are the most goals scored in a game for the Spartans this year … the previous high goal mark for the Spartans under head coach
Katie Fost was 8-0 vs. Eastern on October 22, 2022 … the ten goals marks just the second time in school history that York has reached double figures in goals in a game … the school record is a 12-0 win over Washington & Jefferson on October 27, 2002 …
Claire Burrows had a career-high eight points which ties her for second on the single game records list.
