Late Rally Lifts Men’s Wrestling to Victory at Hopkins

BALTIMORE, Pa. - The York men's wrestling team won three of the final four bouts to pull out a 27-18 victory at Johns Hopkins on Saturday.

A string of three-straight wins by Josh Stahl (174), Jack Wendel (184) and Owen Dixon (197) broke a 12-12 tie and clinched the win for the Spartans as they improved to 25-2 all-time against the Blue Jays.

How It Happened
The Spartans opened up a 9-0 lead  through the first two bouts as Jacob DelVecchio led off with a 4-2 victory at 125 and Vincent Paolucci received a forfeit at 133. Hopkins got on the board with Giorgio Difalco decision at 141 as they trailed, 9-3.

After a David Vacca victory at 149 which put York up 12-3, the Blue Jays came storming back to tie the score, 12-12, with four bouts remaining. Freddy Pimental sparked the comeback with a major decision at 157 and Chris Roybal posted a technical fall at 165 which knotted up the dual.

The Spartans responded in a big way with three-straight victories to clinch the dual prior to the heavyweight bout. Josh Stahl racked up three takedowns before pinning Noah O'Connor in the first period at 174 lbs. Jack Wendel had a pair of takedowns before eventually sticking Samuel Gledhill to his back at 2:34. After entering the third period tied, 3-3, Owen Dixon escaped from bottom and had the riding time bonus secured in a 6-3 win over John LIbby at 197 to seal the win for the Spartans.
