Spartans Defeat DeSales to Split at Elizabethtown Tri-Match

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - The York volleyball team split a pair of matches with DeSales and Elizabethtown in a tri-match hosted by Elizabethtown on Saturday.

The Spartans opened the day with a 3-1 victory over DeSales and fell, 3-2, to the host Blue Jays in their second match.

How It Happened
After dropping the first set, 25-19, to the Bulldogs, the Spartans ripped off back-to-back wins by scores of 25-23 and 25-12. York clinched the match with a wild 31-29 victory in the fourth set. Jennifer Taylor led York with eight kills and eight digs in the decisive fourth set while swinging .727 in the frame.

The Spartans and Blue Jays swapped sets to set up a winner-take-all fifth set in which Etown prevailed, 15-11. The Blue Jays jumped out toa 10-2 lead in the fifth set and held on to win despite hitting .000 collectively in the frame.

Morgan Nolte led York in attack percentage (.326), total blocks (9) and blocks/set (1.00) on the day while racking up 20 total kills … Jennifer Taylor led York with 27 total kills on the day with 22 total digs … Georgianna Kahley led the team with 25 total digs on the day to go along with 24 total kills … Alyssa Mott established a new career-high with 42 assists in the win over DeSales; she finished with 79 total assists on the day with a 8.78 assists/set average.

The Spartans travel to Dickinson on Wednesday for a non-conference match slated to start at 7 p.m.
