Spartans Battle Back to Tie at WAC

Williamson Nets Equalizer in 83rd minute

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - The York men's soccer team used a late comeback to earn a 1-1 draw at No. 4 Washington (Md.) on Wednesday night to remain unbeaten on the young season.

After the Shoremen notched the game's first tally in the 64th minute, the Spartans remained persistent and were rewarded as Dermot Williamson headed in a corner service from Matt Zeiders in the 83rd minute for the equalizing tally.

Team Records
York 1-0-2
#4 Washington 1-1-1

How It Happened
The Spartans supplied heavy pressure throughout the first half with consistent possession and chances inside their attacking third. One of the best opportunities of the half for the Spartans came in the 24th minute when a Tyler Howlett free kick from 19 yards curled through a wall of Washington defenders and required a great diving save by Shoreman keeper Cole White. White would go on to finish the first half with three saves

WAC had the field tilted in their favor to start the second half and their chances amounted to a goal in the 64th minute of play. The Shoremen matriculated the ball up the right side of the field from their defensive third to their attacking third where Katim Njie fed a pass across the goal mouth. His pass managed to slip through traffic and found Tshazi Kamau on the backside of the play who knocked it in for his first tally of the season.

The Spartans did not fold up camp after falling behind and instead went on the offensive. Colin Findlay gave York some hope as he had a pair of quality looks on target in the 78th minute from close range, but just could not unlock the Shoreman defense.

York's chances continued to mount and eventually the Green and White found the back of the net on a corner set piece in the 83rd minute. Matt Zeiders swung the ball in from the left corner to the middle of the box where Dermot Williamson headed it in from 10 yards out though multiple defenders.

Up Next
The Spartans return home on Saturday to face Misericordia in a MAC crossover match slated to start at 3 p.m.
