Big First Quarter Powers #11 Spartans to Road Victory

Buschert and Egan find the back of the cage for York in the win

CARLISLE, PA – The 11th ranked York College field hockey squad used a big first quarter to notch a 2-1 win over the Dickinson College Red Devils in non-conference action on Wednesday.
The Spartans got on top quick and then got an outstanding effort from goalie Belle Fields to earn their first road win of the year.
The Spartans improve to 2-0 while the Red Devils fall to 0-2.

How It Happened
• The Spartans wasted little time in getting on the board as Olivia Miller captured a loose ball on the right wing and slid a beautiful pass to Riley Buschert who finished off the chance just 1:16 into the game. The Green and White added to the lead just over six and a half minutes later as freshman Kate Egan had a great individual effort to make it 2-0. Egan received a pass in the circle with a defender on her back, she made a pair of moves before unleashing a wicked backhanded shot into the upper right 90 of the goal for her first collegiate tally.
•  The Red Devils had a pair of late penalty corners in the first quarter but Belle Fields registered a save on a shot off the second penalty corner to keep Dickinson off the board.
• The Spartans got off to a strong start in the second quarter as they had a trio of shots, with two on goal, and a penalty corner in the opening 1:11 of the stanza. The Red Devils slowly wrestled control away from York as they started applying heavy pressure to the Spartan defense. That pressure paid off for the hosts with a goal with 6:30 left in the half. Fields made a save on Sophia Pereira's initial shot but Nicole Uebele was able to bang home the rebound to slice the Spartan lead in half.
• The second quarter was frenetic as the Red Devils out shot York 9-7 while York had a 5-3 margin in corners. Both goalies made four saves in the period.
• York began the third quarter with another flurry as they had three penalty corners and four shots in the first five minutes of the half. Dickinson hit the Spartans with a late barrage in the final two minutes of the quarter as they had two penalty corners and Fields made two saves to keep the one goal lead heading to the fourth quarter.
• The fourth quarter pace took on a decidedly more defensive look as there were just six combined shots in the 15-minute stanza. The Red Devils had some chances midway through the quarter but Fields posted a pair of big saves to preserve the one goal victory.
