YORK, PA – The York College women's tennis team dropped their fall home opener on Saturday as they fell to Goucher College 4-3 in a highly competitive match at the Myers Tennis Complex in York.
The Gophers improve to 2-0 while the Spartans fall to 0-2.
The Gophers captured the doubles point as they won the first and second doubles matches. The Gophers first doubles squad of Natalia Navarro and Meline Siggen outlasted the Spartan duo of
Bri Serruto and
Hannah Sult 6-3. Goucher won the second doubles match 6-1 to secure the doubles point. The third doubles point was not contested as the Gophers didn't have a sixth player.
The Spartans started the singles with a forfeit win at sixth singles to tie the overall score at one.
Navarro opened singles play with a 6-1, 6-1 second singles victory over Sult to put the Gophers up 2-1. Eliza Abady pushed the lead to 3-1 with a 6-1, 6-3 third singles win for Goucher. Sarai Oquendo Silveira secured the team win with a 6-2, 6-0 fifth singles win over
Kennedy Conte.
Eleanor Beck outlasted Shelby Meek 1-6, 6-4, 10-7 in the fourth singles match. Serruto played a strong first singles match as she downed Siggen 7-6 (7-5), 6-2.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday, September 28 when they head to Middletown, PA to face off against Penn State Harrisburg. The match is set for a 12:00 pm start.
