WILKES-BARRE, PA – The York College women's tennis picked up their first win of the fall as they edged King's College 4-3 in a non-conference match in Wilkes-Barre, PA.
The Spartans improve to 1-2 overall while the Monarchs fall to 0-2.
The Green and White earned the doubles point as they won two of the three doubles matches. The tandem of
Bri Serruto and
Kennedy Conte earned a 6-0 first singles victory.
Caraline Junkin and
Mia Leonhartt combined to post a 7-5 second doubles win. The Monarchs won the third singles by forfeit as York did not field a third doubles team.
The Monarchs got a pair of forfeit wins at fifth and sixth singles to push out to a 2-1 lead heading to the remaining singles matches. The Spartans tied the match at two with a Conte 6-2, 6-1 second singles win over Carlee Dellose. Serruto earned a 6-2, 6-4 first singles win to give York a 3-2 win. Mia Leonhartt earned a 6-3, 7-5 third singles win to wrap up the team victory.
Leonhartt earned her first collegiate singles victory in her second match while Serruto earned her team-leading second singles win of the year.
The Spartans conclude their 2024 fall season next Saturday as they host Rutgers-Camden in a non-conference contest at the Myers Tennis Complex. The match is set for a 12:00 pm start.
