How It Happened
• The Spartans played well early as they spent a majority of the quarter in their offensive zone. York got the first goal of the game in the eighth minute of play. Freshman
Bella Reiss fired an initial shot that was blocked. After a prolonged scrum in front of the cage, fellow first year Spartan
Kelbie Linebaugh poked in the loose ball for the 1-0 lead.
• The second quarter action was more subdued as the Spartans out shot the Bishops 3-1 while York held a 2-0 margin in penalty corners. The Green and White out shot Ohio Wesleyan 9-1 in the opening 30 minutes of the game including 4-0 in shots on goal.
• York turned the pressure back up after halftime as the Spartans registered three shots on goal in the first two minutes of the half. The Green and White made it 2-0 in the 40
th minute as
Sam Ward took a penalty corner for York. Her insert went to
Libby Wild and she slipped a pass to Reiss. Reiss proceeded to drive the ball into the cage for the goal. The Bishops had a late quarter flurry but Wild notched a defensive save and goalie
Belle Fields made a save to keep OWU off the board.
• The Spartans closed out the game with a methodical fourth quarter as the defense held the Bishops without a shot to preserve the shut out, York's third of the year.
• York finished the game with a 21-4 edge in total shots including 11-2 in shots on goal. York also had a 10-2 margin in penalty corners.
