How It Happened
• The game was played at a frenetic pace over the first five minutes of the match. As the teams settled in, the sides grappled to get momentum, going back and forth with the play. The Spartans broke the scoreless tie in the 34th minute of the game as the possession was started by a Brandon Holy free kick after an LVC foul. He struck the ball into the box only to have the Dutchmen clear the ball out to Owen Henderlite as he was about 15 yards inside of midfield. Henderlite served the ball back into the box where Gavin Huey flicked a header to teammate Dermot Williamson. Williamson collected the pass turned and ripped a shot into the cage for the 1-0 lead.
• The Dutchmen outshot the Spartans 7-5 in the opening 45 minutes of play with both teams putting two shots on target. York held a slight 2-1 edge in corner kicks.
• The second half picked up the physical play as the two teams continued battle back and forth. The Dutchmen were on the offensive early as they had three shots, two on goal, and one corner kick in the opening seven minutes of the half. Jake Bono made a pair of saves during the Dutchmen flurry.
• The Spartans answered with a renewed pressure over the next ten minutes and that pressure paid off in a huge insurance goal in the 68th minute of play. The Spartans took advantage of yet another Dutchmen foul in the Spartans offensive third. This time, Shaun Apsley took the free kick, serving into the box. Williamson flicked a header to Noah Roche who finished off the chance for the 2-0 lead. The goal was Roche's fourth of the year.
• Huey made the defensive play of the night in the 71st minute as the Dutchmen drew a corner kick. LVC's Aaron Weitzel struck a great header that Huey cleared off the line to keep the shutout intact. The Spartans would close out the final 20 minutes to pick up the win.
• The Dutchmen outshot the Spartans 17-10 in overall shots but the shots on goal were much closer as LVC had a slim 6-5 edge. York had a 5-4 margin in corner kicks. The game featured a combined 23 fouls and two yellow cards.
