LEWISBURG, PA – The York College men's golf team concluded their stay at the Gauntlet Tournament at the Bucknell Golf Course in Lewisburg, PA on Monday.
The Spartans had a good showing as they finished fourth of 14 teams at the tournament. The Spartans shot a two-day total of 583 as they shot a 293 in Monday's second round. Gettysburg won the tournament with a score of 568. The Bullets shot a blistering one-under-par 279 on Monday to win the tournament by eight strokes. Penn State Altoona finished second at 576 followed by RPI in third with 579. Franklin & Marshall rounded out the top five with a score of 584, finishing one stroke back of the Spartans.
Senior
Gavin Ganter led the way for the Spartans as he tied for sixth with a two-day total of 141. After shooting an even par 70 on Sunday, Ganter carded a one-over 71 on Monday. Ganter was one-under on the front nine with a 35 and followed that with a two-over-par 36 on the back. The 141 was a new 36-hole career best for Ganter, four strokes better than his previous best.
Jacob Fripp was York's next finisher as he shot a tournament total of 146 with a matching pair of 73's. Fripp tied for 16
th in the tournament. He shot an even par 36 on the front and came home in 37. His tournament total of 146 was a new career best for the junior.
Sophomore
Thomas O'Connell was York's next finisher as he concluded the tournament with a two-day total of 148. O'Connell shot 74 for the second straight day as he carded a one-under 35 on the outward nine before coming back in with a 39. He finished tied for 25
th overall. His tournament score also set a new career standard for the sophomore.
Senior
Matthew Salter was York's fourth overall scorer in the tournament with a 149. He shot 76 on Monday with a one over 37 followed by a 39 on the back. Salter tied for 28
th in the 75-player tournament.
Senior
Jason Velez finished round two with a five-over 75 as he finished with a total of 153. Velez tied for 44
th for the tournament. On Monday, Velez was four-over on the front and then fired a one-over 35 on the back nine.
The Spartans return to action in 11 days as they will head to the DIII Northeast Elite Tournament at the Williamsport Country Club. The two day tournament begins on Saturday, September 28 at noon.
