GETTYSBURG, PA – The York College men's tennis team dropped their 2024 fall season opener at Gettysburg College, 7-0, on a beautiful Saturday in Gettysburg.
College tennis has changed their scoring this year as the three doubles matches now count for one team point in the match.
Gettysburg is now 1-0 while the Spartans fall to 0-1.
The Bullets captured the doubles point as they won the first and second doubles matches by identical 6-2 scores. They won the third doubles 6-1 to go up 1-0 in the overall match.
Gettysburg opened up singles play with a 6-1, 6-2 third singles win. The followed with a 6-2, 6-2 fourth singles win. The Bullets clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-3 second singles win to go up 4-0.
The Spartans best chance at victory came from number one singles player
Jason Lutz. Lutz battled Red Bondi to a three set decision. Lutz won set one 6-2 while Bondi outlast Lutz 6-4 in the second set. Bondi earned victory as he earned an 11-9 win in the tiebreaker.
The Spartans are back in action on Sunday as they head to Arlington, Virginia to face the Marymount University Saints in a non-conference contest. The match is slated for a noon start.
