Spartans Notch First Win in Saturday Split

Mickle Collects 100th Win; Taylor All-Tournament Honors

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - The York volleyball team split a pair of matches with Southern Virginia and Gallaudet on Saturday as the Spartans concluded their stint at Gettysburg's Battlefield Classic.

The Lead
York (1-3) rolled to a 3-1 victory over Southern Virginia (0-4) in the first match of the day and capped off the weekend in a 3-0 defeat to Gallaudet (3-1).

Head coach Dan Mickle collected his 100th career coaching victory with the team's triumph over Southern Virginia. Other individual accolades went to senior outside hitter Jennifer Taylor who earned all-tournament team honors.

How It Happened
The Spartans powered their way to a 25-15 opening set victory over Southern Virginia on a .308 hitting percentage, but the Knights flipped the script in the second set as they rolled to a 25-9 win on a stellar .316 attack percentage. York went on to lead wire-to-wire in a 25-18 third-set victory before sealing the match with a 25-21 win in the fourth.

Gallaudet had their way with York as the Bison rolled to straight-set victories by scores of 25-17, 25-16 and 25-22. GU hit an impressive .362 for the match despite the Spartans racking up seven blocks.

Notes
Taylor led the Spartans with 16 kills on the day and finished with a team-high 33 for the weekend with a 2.54 kills/set average. Alyssa Mott led the team with six service aces on the day and leads the squad this season with nine.

Defensively, Morgan Nolte accounted for 12 total blocks on the day with a trio of solo blocks. She now has 19 blocks on the season. Jasmine Doguina and Georgianna Kahley each racked up 12 digs on the day. Doguin leads the team with 20 on the season.

Mickle is now just the second coach in program history to reach the 100-win milestone, joining Sue DuMars in that category. In eight seasons at the helm of the Spartan program, Mickle has amassed a record of 100-76 while guiding York to five conference postseason appearances during his tenure.

What's Next
The Spartans will make their home debut on Tuesday night as they take on their Route 30 rival to the east, Franklin & Marshall, at 7 p.m. inside Charles Wolf Gymnasium.
