YORK, PA – The York College women's tennis team began the MAC Commonwealth portion of their schedule with a 9-0 win over Eastern University on breezy Saturday in York.
The Spartans, who were named the MAC Commonwealth preseason favorite, snapped a two match losing streak with the win. The 9-0 win is their second shutout win of the year.
York improves to 2-7 overall and 1-0 in the league while the Eagles fall to 3-6 overall and 0-1 in the MAC
The Spartans rolled to a trio of doubles wins as they dropped just two games combined in the three matches.
Elsa Oestermarker and
Bri Serruto earned an 8-0 first doubles win.
Hannah Sult and
Maddi Haggerty notched an 8-1 second doubles win while
Eleanor Beck and
Kennedy Conte also posted an 8-1 third doubles win.
Oestermarker continued her march to the Spartan career singles win record with her 6-4, 6-1 first singles win over Trinity Gruber. Oestermarker now has 40 career singles wins as she is one back of former Spartan great Katie Wagner for the all-time record.
Sult posted a 6-1, 6-2 second singles win for York. Serruto earned a 6-0, 6-1 third singles win followed by a 6-0, 6-2 win for Haggerty in the fourth singles contest. Beck kept things rolling with a 6-0, 6-0 fifth singles win. Conte closed out the match with a 6-1, 6-0 sixth singles win to complete the shutout.
Beck's win is her team-leading seventh while Oestermarker has six victories for the year.
The Spartans return to action on Wednesday, April 10 when they head to Reading, PA to face the Albright Lions. The match is slated for a 3:30 pm start.
