How It Happened
• The River Hawks got on the board first in the top of the opening inning as Joe Healy scored Sean McCulloch with an RBI ground out for the 1-0 lead. York wasted little time in responding in the bottom of the first.
Gabe Trevena drilled a triple to left center and then scored on a
Robby Elzinga single to center, tying the game at one.
Michael Tinneny singled to right to move Elzinga to third.
Chris Betler singled to left, scoring Elzinga for the 2-1 lead. After a fly out,
Andrew Santarpia singled to right to load the bases with two outs.
Jacob Deimling came up big with a two-run double down the right field line to give York the 4-1 lead.
• Susquehanna got a single run in the top of the second and then two more in the third to tie the game at four. York pushed back into the lead with a
Brett DeWees sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third.
• The River Hawks tied the game at five in the fifth on a Tony Rossi bomb to deep left field to lead off the frame. Susquehanna then took the lead in the sixth on a Michael Biuso sacrifice fly. The visitors then extended their lead with a three-run seventh inning to seize control of the game. The big blow was a two-run Jack Cahill pinch hit home run that pushed the lead to 9-6.
• Freshman reliever
Adam Baeumel had a great top of the eighth as he struck out the side setting the stage for a dramatic bottom of the inning. The Spartans started the rally in the bottom of the eighth as
Lucas Prendergast drew a one out walk. Trevena followed with a double down the right field line. After a pop up for out number two, Tinneny singled to left to score Prendergast. Betler then drew a walk to load the bases.
Connor Pickle then unloaded the bases with a grand slam to deep right center, giving York a 10-9 lead.
• The persistent River Hawk offense answered with the tying and go-ahead runs in the ninth. Baeumel got a fly out to center for out number one. He then hit Tyler Hmielewski with a pitch, prompting a call to the pen. Hmielewski stole second to put the tying run in scoring position. After a walk to Chris Orrego put runners at first and second, the Spartans attempted a pick off at second and the throw sailed into centerfield allowing Hmielewski to tie the game and Orrego to go to third. After a ground out moved Orrego to third, McCulloch had a single to deep short to score the go ahead run.
• The Spartans got a two-out Predergast single but that was all they could muster as they ended their home campaign with the one run loss.
