GLENSIDE, PA – The York College softball team closed out their 2024 regular season with a sweep of Arcadia on Monday afternoon in Glenside, PA.
The Spartans won game one 5-3 and then completed the sweep with a 7-1 win in the nightcap.
York improves to 24-16 with the win while the Knights fall to 10-28.

How It Happened
• The Knights jumped on York early as they loaded the bases with no outs in the first inning. Spartan starter
Kyrsten Coppage rose to the occasion retired the next three Knights she faced to keep the home team off the board.
• The Spartan offense was quiet until the fourth when they erupted for five runs. The scoring began with an
Olivia Turchi RBI ground out.
Gretchen Barstad then singled home a pair of runs to make it 3-0. Two batters later,
Daphney Adams ripped a two-run double to left center for the 5-0 Spartan lead.
• The Knights got an unearned run in the fourth to get on the board. In the bottom of the seventh, Arcadia got two runs on a two out double from Taylor Sommer to cut the Spartan lead to 5-3 but Coppage got the final out of the game to preserve the win.

How It Happened
• The Spartans opened the scoring in the second as
Alexis McDonaugh doubled to lead off the inning. She moved to third on a ground out and scored on an
Olivia Turchi single down the left field line for the 1-0 York lead.
• The Green and White added to the lead in the third with a four-run inning.
Gretchen Barstad began the inning with a one-out single.
Daphney Adams walked to put runners at first and second.
Emma Wade doubled to center, scoring Barstad with York's second run. McDonaugh singled to center to score Adams and Barstad as the York lead grew to 4-0. McDonaugh came around to score on an
Emma Keller pinch hit sacrifice fly to right as York led 5-0.
• Arcadia broke up the shutout in the fourth but the Spartans got the run back in the fifth on a Knight error. McDonaugh got the Spartans their seventh run with an RBI single to right center as the York lead grew to 7-1.
• That offensive output would be plenty for starter
Natalie Rietema as she twirled a two hitter as she struck out four and walked one in her seven innings of work.
