OWINGS MILLS, MD – The York College women's tennis team secured a berth in next week's MAC Commonwealth tournament with an 8-1 win at Stevenson University on Wednesday afternoon.
The Spartans improve to 5-9 overall and 3-2 in the conference. The Mustangs fall to 4-9 and 1-4 in the league as they were eliminated from Commonwealth tournament contention with the loss.
The Green and White captured two of the three doubles matches to surge to the early lead.
Hannah Sult and
Maddi Haggerty earned an 8-6 second doubles win.
Eleanor Beck and
Kennedy Conte posted an 8-5 third doubles win as York led 2-1 after the doubles portion of the match.
The Spartans won all six singles matches in straight sets to roll to the team win.
Elsa Oestermarker picked up her 43
rd career singles win with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Torrienne Emery in the first singles match. Sult earned a 6-3, 6-3 second singles win over Shelby Carter.
Bri Serruto posted a 6-1, 6-1 third singles win for the Green and White. Haggerty kept the Spartans rolling with a 6-4, 6-1 fourth singles victory.
Beck earned a 6-0, 6-0 win in fifth singles while Conte earned a 6-2, 6-0 sixth singles win.
The Spartans will close out their 2023-24 regular season on Saturday as they host Hood in a MAC Commonwealth contest. The match is set for a 1:00 pm start at the Myers Tennis Complex.
