WASHINGTON, DC – The York College baseball team suffered a heartbreaking loss at Catholic as the Cardinals scored seven runs in the last two innings to walk off the Spartans 10-9 in a non-conference contest Tuesday at Talbot Field in Washington, DC.
The Spartans fall to 17-16 as they have dropped eight straight. The Cardinals improve to 25-9 with the dramatic win.

How It Happened
• The Spartans got off to a great start with a pair of runs in the top of the second.
Connor Pickle walked to lead off the inning and was followed by a
Jacob Deimling double to left center to put Spartans at second and third.
Ryan Niedzialkowski grounded out to short, scoring Pickle with the game's first run. Deimling scored after
Brett DeWees doubled to left center for the 2-0 lead.
• York tacked on a trio of runs in the third as
Robby Elzinga walked, stole second, and scored on a
Michael Tinneny triple to right center. After
Chris Betler walked and stole second, Deimling singled up the middle to score Tinneny and Betler as the Spartan lead grew to 5-0.
• The Spartan lead grew to 7-0 in the fourth as
Gabe Trevena singled with one out. He came around to score when Elzinga tripled to center. Tinneny scored Elzinga with a sacrifice fly.
• Catholic got two runs back in the bottom of the fourth on four hits as they left two runners stranded. The Cardinals got a single run in the bottom of the sixth to cut the Spartan lead to 7-3.
• The Spartans got a single run in the top of the eighth as Trevena scored on a Cardinal error, pushing the York lead to 8-3. The Cardinals cut the Spartan lead to two with a three-run bottom of the eighth. The Cardinals scored two of the three runs on sacrifice flies as the Spartan lead was trimmed to 8-6.
• The Spartans got another single run in the top of the ninth on a double steal with Betler and Pickle. The Cardinals started their comeback into the bottom of the frame. After a fly out to start the inning, Catholic got a single and a walk. Matt Perlin then singled to left for an RBI single. After fly out for the second out, Zach Burton drew a walk to load the bases. Mitchel Johnson was hit by a pitch to make the score 9-8. The game would last two more pitches as Jesse Lacefield singled down the right field line to score the tying and winning run.
