WESTMINSTER, MD – The York College women's tennis team posted a 9-0 win at McDaniel College on Monday afternoon in Westminster.
The day was historic for the women's tennis program as senior
Elsa Oestermarker became the program's all-time leader in singles win as she notched a 6-1, 6-0 first singles win. The victory was her 42
nd career singles win and she already owns the doubles record with 44 victories. She passed former Spartan great Katie Wagner for first place on the all-time wins list.
Oestermarker is now 42-18 in first singles and 44-17 in first doubles.
The Spartans are now 4-9 overall with the win while McDaniel falls to 2-13.
York swept the three doubles matches in convincing fashion. Oestermarker and
Bri Serutto earned an 8-2 first doubles win. The second doubles team of
Hannah Sult and
Maddi Haggerty rolled to an 8-0 win while
Eleanor Beck and
Kennedy Conte also earned an 8-0 third doubles win.
Sult kicked off singles play with a 6-1, 6-0 seconds singles win. Oestermarker then notched her historic win as she downed Liz Fyfe. Serruto recorded a 6-0, 6-1 third singles win to push the York lead to 6-0. Beck notched a 6-0, 6-0 fifth singles win while Haggerty posted a 6-1, 6-2 fourth singles win. Conte closed out the match with a 6-1, 6-0 sixth singles victory.
The 9-0 win is the third of the year for the Spartans.
York returns to action on Wednesday afternoon when they travel to Stevenson to face the Mustangs in a MAC Commonwealth contest. The match is slated for a 3:30 pm start.
