GRANTHAM, PA – The York College women's tennis team dropped their second straight as they fell to Messiah 6-3 in a MAC Commonwealth match on Saturday in Grantham, PA.
The Spartans are now 3-9 overall and 2-2 in the league. The Falcons are 4-8 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
The highlight of the match for the Spartans was
Elsa Oestermarker's 6-1, 6-3 first singles win over Kasi Conjack as Oestermarker is now tied with Katie Wagner for the school record in singles victories. Oestermarker and Wagner both have 41 wins. Wagner was 41-14 during her career that spanned 2014 to 2018. Oestermarker is 41-18 as she is closing out her Spartan career over the next few weeks.
The Falcons took an early lead as they won two of the three doubles match. Oestermarker and
Bri Serruto earned an 8-3 first doubles win. The Falcons won the second doubles match 8-5 while
Eleanor Beck and
Conte Kennedy dropped a tight 8-7 (7-5) third doubles match to Kiara Bomboy and Jocelyn Valdez.
In addition to Oestermarker's first singles win, Beck rolled to a 6-4, 6-1 fifth singles win for the Spartans. Beck leads the Green and White in singles wins as she is 9-3 in 2023-24.
York has a busy final week of the regular season as they have three matches next week starting with a trip to McDaniel to face the Green Terror in a match up match on Monday. York then heads to Stevenson on Wednesday before closing out the regular season next Saturday at home against Hood.
