YORK, PA – The York College men's tennis team ran their win streak to three with a 7-2 MAC Commonwealth win over Alvernia on a pleasant Wednesday afternoon in York.
The Spartans improve to 4-7 overall and 3-0 in the league. The Golden Wolves fall to 5-7 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
The Spartans got the momentum early as they captured two of the three doubles points. The second doubles team of
Evan Stehman and
Hayden Musser combined to earn an 8-3 win in their match. The tandem of
Emmet Larson and
Ian Bartles earned a hard-fought 8-5 third doubles win for the Green and White.
The Golden Wolves cut into the Spartan lead with a first singles win but the Spartans roared back and won the remaining five singles matches.
Jason Lutz rolled to a 6-2, 6-1 second singles win for the Green and White. Stehman had to work overtime to earn a 6-3, 4-6, 10-5 win in the third singles match. Musser recorded a 6-3, 6-2 fourth singles victory.
Larson cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 fifth singles victory while his doubles partner, Bartles, rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win in the sixth singles match to close it out for the Spartans.
York heads to McDaniel College on Friday to take on the Green Terror in York's last non-conference match of the regular season. Game time in Westminster is set for 4:00 pm.
