READING, Pa. - The Spartan softball team opened conference play with a pair of victories at Albright on Sunday by scores of 9-1 and 13-3.

Team Records
York 9-4 (2-0 MACC)
Albright 3-5 (0-2)

GAME 1
York 9, Albright 1 - 6 inn.

Pitchers of Record
WP: Natalie Rietema (3-3)
LP: Kaitlyn Aasheim (1-2)

How It Happened
The Lions scored the first run of the day as they took advantage of a Spartan miscue in the second and took a 1-0 lead.

Albright's did last through the next half inning as Gretchen Barstad roped a double to right center field which brought in Morgan Sauers for York's first run of the day. Later in the inning, Emma Wade poked a two-run homer to left and put the Spartans on top, 3-1.

Spartan pitcher Natalie Rietema went on to throw four-straight scoreless innings to finish the game and allowed just one hit during that span.

The York offense complemented its pitcher with six runs in the final two frames, including four in the sixth to end the game an inning early on the run rule. Wade was ultimately responsible for the shortened game as her grand slam in the sixth gave the Spartans an eight-run advantage.

GAME 2
York 13, Albright 3

Pitchers of Record
WP: Kyrsten Coppage (6-1)
LP: Kathryn Baptiste (1-1)

How It Happened
Game two went the full length as the two sides traded blows in the second inning and remained relatively close until the Spartans extended their lead late.

Morgan Sauers opened the scoring with a three-run shot in the second inning for her second long ball of the season. Bartstad added another run with a double to left which allowed Rylee Dreyer to score. Albright answered in the bottom of the second with three runs on two hits to cut the Spartan lead to one.

After their second-inning outburst, the Lions would not score a single run the rest of the way as they were no-hit by Kyrsten Coppage in the third, fourth and fifth innings.

The Spartans tacked on four more runs in the fourth, highlighted by an Adams' two-run double, to extend their lead to five. York poured on more insurance runs in the seventh inning as Sauers left the yard for the second time in the game, while Wade and Reagan Wolford each had two-RBI hits as part of a five-run seventh.

Up Next
York is set to make their home debut on Tuesday in a clash of the two defending Middle Atlantic Conference champions as the Spartans take on Misericordia (11-3). The doubleheader is set for a 3 p.m. start.

Notes
The Spartans evened up the all-time series with Albright, 13-13, with the two wins on Sunday; York has now won the last six meetings with the Lions … Daphney Adams became just the fifth player in program history to reach 100 RBI for her career after registering two on Sunday and now has 101 for her career … Natalie Rietema hit the century mark for career strikeouts with six in her winning performance on Sunday; she is the 13th player in program history to reach that milestone.
