YORK, PA – The York College women's tennis team recorded a 9-0 win over Lancaster Bible College on a pristine Thursday afternoon in York.
The Spartans earned their first win of the year as they are now 1-5 while the Chargers are also 1-5. York got over the hump after a number of close losses during the fall portion of their schedule.
York swept the three doubles points to take the early lead.
Elsa Oestermarker and
Bri Serruto combined to earn an 8-3 victory in the first doubles match.
Hannah Sult and
Maddi Haggerty finished with an 8-1 win in the second doubles match. The Spartan tandem of
Eleanor Beck and
Kennedy Conte won by forfeit in the third doubles match.
Oestermarker kicked off singles play with a 6-1, 6-1 win in the first singles match. Sult posted a 7-5, 6-0 victory in the second singles contest. Serruto recorded a 6-2, 6-4 third singles match and was followed with a Haggerty 6-2, 6-0 fourth singles win. Beck earned a 6-1, 6-1 fifth singles win and Conte was awarded a forfeit win in the sixth singles match.
Beck improves to 5-1 in singles play for the Green and White while Oestermarker and Serruto are 4-2 in singles action. Oestermarker and Serruto lead the way in doubles play as they are a combined 3-3.
Oestermarker is three singles wins away from tying former Spartan great Katie Wagner for the school record in wins with 41.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday when they head to Annville to face the Lebanon Valley Flying Dutchmen. That match is slated for a noon start.
