SALISBURY, MD – The York College women's tennis squad kicked off the spring segment of their 2023-24 campaign on Sunday with a 7-2 setback at Salisbury.
The Spartans fall to 0-5 while the Sea Gulls improve to 5-1.
The Sea Gulls swept the three doubles matches but they were competitive. The Gulls won the first doubles 8-4 and the third doubles 8-3. The second doubles match saw the Spartan tandem of
Hannah Sult and
Maddi Haggerty pushed the Salisbury duo of Hannah Carter and Evelyn Whiteside but the Sea Gull pair outlasted York 8-6.
Salisbury secured the win two matches into the singles play as they won at third singles and at fourth singles to go up 5-0.
Eleanor Beck earned a 6-4, 6-4 fifth singles win to break up the shutout. Senior
Elsa Oestermarker earned the Spartans' other singles victory as the outlasted Olivia Hall 6-7 (4), 6-1, 10-6.
Salisbury finished off the match with wins in the sixth and second singles matches.
The Spartans return to action on Thursday afternoon as they host Lancaster Bible in a non-conference contest at the Myers Tennis Complex. The match is slated for a 3:30 pm start.
