Grim’s 23 Points Powers Spartans Past Albright

READING, Pa. – The York women's basketball team completed the Season sweep of Commonwealth foe Albright with a 66-50 road win Wednesday night.

Spartan sophomore guard Breana Grim led all players and was the only Spartan in double-figures with a career-high 23 points. She also dished out five assists and matched her career-high with five steals on the night.

How It Happened
  • The Spartans took advantage of a rough shooting performance by Albright in the first quarter to take a 12-5 lead through the first 10 minutes of play. The Lions started the game 0-for-8 from the floor and finished the quarter shooting just 5.9% from the floor on a 1-for-17 performance, including a 0-for-5 effort from beyond the three-point arc. The Spartans shook off an 0-for-5 start and tallied the game's first bucket on a Makenna Zimmer man made free throw 3:11 after the opening tip. Spartan senior Brooklyn Naylor led all players with four first quarter points, followed by Georgia Panopoulos with three.
  • Both teams found an offensive in the second quarter as the two combined for 37 points with York owning a 33-21 halftime lead. The Lions scored the first four points of the quarter to cut the York lead down to three, but the Spartans responded with a 10-2 run over the next four minutes to double-up Albright on the scoreboard, 22-11. Albright once again cut the Spartan lead to three as the clock ticked below two minutes, but York went on  to out-score the Lions, 11-2, in the final 90 seconds to regain a double-digit advantage.
  • Spartan guard Breana Grim led all players with 16 points in the first half after exploding for 14 in the second  quarter. Orianna Edmond led the Lions with seven points at the halftime break. The Spartans also owned a slim lead in rebounding in the first half, 24-23.
  • The Spartans edged out the Lions, 15-11, in the third quarter to take a 48-32 lead at quarter's end. Taylor Burda scored five points on York's 6-0 run to open the third quarter which gave the Spartans their largest lead of the night (39-21) with 6:59 left in the period. After that, Albright scored eight unanswered and out-scored the Spartans, 11-9, the rest of the quarter. Panopoulos carried the Spartans late in the third as she scored five of the team's last nine points. Panopoulos and Burda each scored five points in the third to lead the Green and White.
  • Both teams finished the game strong offensively as both scored 18 points and both shot over 47% from the floor. The Lions made things interesting as they cut York's lead down to 10 (52-42) with 6:06 left to play as Edmond and Mackenzie Dover combined for eight points on a 10-4 Albright run to begin the fourth. Albright went on to turn the ball over on the next two possessions and the Spartans put their foot on the gas with 14 points in the final six minutes to put the finishing touches on their midweek conference road win.

The Spartans are now 4-4 all-time against Albright … York improves to 9-5 away from home this season, while the Lions fall to 4-4 on their home floor … Grim matched her career-high with nine made field goals for her first 20-plus point performance; she also has three games with five assists as she leads the conference 4.5 assists per game.
