How It Happened
• The first half was lacking in any offensive fireworks. York out shot the Blazers 6-0 but all six shots were off target. The Spartans also had four corner kicks but couldn't create any good chances as the teams headed to the half tied.
• The Spartans came out far more assertive in the second half. York's first shot on goal came from
Alexys Savage in the game's 51
st minute. The Blazers got their lone shot for the game in the 52
nd minute as Kiley O'Grady's attempt was blocked. York then fired off four shots in the next two and a half minutes. Hood goalie Brenna Ellenberger made two saves while the post saved the Blazers from a goal by
Abby Brown.
• York got a rocket from
Meg Kalthof in the 61
st minute as her attempt just missed the upper right 90 of the goal. The Spartans continued to carry the play but the Blazers kept them off the board. The Green and White had a great closing flurry in the final ten minutes as they had five shots with Ellenberger making saves on four of those attempts, preserving the tie.
• York finished the game out shooting the Blazers 26-1 including 9-0 in shots on goal. The Spartans also held a 13-0 bulge in corner kicks. Ellenberger made nine second half saves for the Blazers.
Spartan Notes
The tie is the first result that the Blazers have posted against York as the Spartans entered the match 10-0 all-time against Hood … the Spartans were shut out for the seventh time this season … the shut out came on the heels of York scoring 13 goals in their last three games … the defensive shut out was York's tenth of the year … the one shot allowed was York's lowest opponent total of the year … York has allowed just six shots in their last three games as the defense has been on-point … the 13 corner kicks for York was a season-high by four corners (9 vs. Alvernia) … York did not concede a corner for the first time this year … first year keeper
Joss Metz lowered her goals against average to 0.66 with her 90 minutes of shutout soccer … Metz now has seven full shutouts for the year.
