Miller's Hat Trick Powers Spartans to 6-0 Win at Hood

Olivia Miller records first career hat trick in the Spartan win

FREDERICK, MD – The ninth-ranked York College field hockey team rolled to a 6-0 win in their regular season finale at Hood College on Saturday afternoon.
The Spartans jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter and cruised from there. Sophomore captain Olivia Miller led the way with a hat trick for the Green and White.
The Spartans improve to 14-5 overall and 5-2 in the Commonwealth. Hood ends their season with a mark of 9-9 overall and 2-5 in the league.

How It Happened
• The Spartans wasted little time in getting on the board as Tori Heiserman continued her torrid late season surge with a goal six minutes into the game. The goal was her ninth of the year as she has six goals and two assists in her last six games.
• York made it 2-0 four minutes later as Sam Ward inserted a penalty corner to Libby Wild. The senior defender finished the chance for the goal for York. Sophomore Olivia Miller found the back of the cage 1:06 before the end of the quarter to put York up 3-0.
• The Spartans continued to pressure Hood's defense in the second quarter but York wouldn't be able to add to the lead. The Green and White out shot the Blazers 7-0 including 3-0 in shots on goal.
• Miller recorded her second goal of the game 4:21 into the third quarter, extending York's lead to 4-0. York added a fifth goal 46 seconds into the fourth quarter as Ward inserted another penalty corner. This time, senior Riley Buschert drilled home the chance for the goal. The Green and White closed out the scoring in the 54th minute as Miller notched the hat trick off an assist from Claire Burrows.
• York finished the game out shooting Hood 36-1 overall and 20-1 in shots on goal. The Spartans had a 14-1 bulge in penalty corners for the match. Hood goalie Richana Brown made 12 saves in the game while the Blazers also had two defensive saves in the game.
