YORK, PA – The York College women's basketball squad opened their 17th Annual Ron Witman Coaches vs. Cancer Classic on Friday night with a 67-53 win over Mount Aloysius. The Spartans forced the Mounties into 32 turnovers as York notched 20 steals in the game.

How It Happened
• The Mounties jumped on top of the Spartans early as they scored five of the first seven points of the game, surging to an early advantage. York responded with a 12-4 run to push to a 14-9 lead. Alyssa Hocker and Breana Grim each had three points on the run. After an Angelina Kohlwaies three for the Mounties cut the lead to two, Makenna Zimmerman scored on back-to-back possessions to push out to an 18-12 lead. The teams then traded baskets as the Spartans took a 20-14 lead after one quarter of play.
• York scored the four of the first six points of the second quarter but the Mounties ripped off five straight including another Kohlwaies three to slice the Spartan lead to three at 24-21. Hocker then keyed a huge 13-2 run that pushed the lead to 37-23 at the intermission. Hocker had a pair of threes and a jumper on the run as the Spartans took control of the contest.
• The Spartans enjoyed the 14-point lead despite 10 first half turnovers and a 3-for-15 performance behind the arc.
• The Mounties came out of the locker room and smacked the Spartans with a 12-4 run, trimming the Spartan lead to six at 41-35 with just 2:17 remaining in the quarter. The Spartans steadied the ship and scored seven of the final 10 points of the quarter to take a 48-38 lead to the final quarter of play. The Spartans shot just 18.8% (3-for-16) from the floor in the third quarter while Mount Aloysius was 5-for-9 (55.6%). The Mounties could have really cut into the Spartan lead but they went just 4-for-10 from the line in the quarter and committed six turnovers.
• The Mounties again got off to a great start in the fourth quarter as they cut the Spartan lead to six at 49-43. York pushed their lead back to 12 with 6:19 left in the game. Mount Aloysius made one final push, cutting York's lead to seven at 57-50 but York ended the game on a 10-3 run for the final 14-point margin of victory.
