WAYNESBORO, PA – The York College men's golf team finished tied for seventh of 17 teams at the annual Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic at Waynesboro Country Club over the weekend.
The Spartans shot a team total of 594 as they finished tied with MAC Commonwealth foe Alvernia. The Green and White shot 298 on day one and followed that with a 296 on Sunday. Alvernia shot 300 on Saturday and 294 on Sunday.
Gettysburg blistered the field as they finished ten-under for the tournament with a score of 566. The Bullets shot 287 on Saturday and then went way low on Sunday with a 279. Franklin & Marshall finished second but the Diplomats were 18 strokes back with a 584. Shenandoah (585) finished third followed by Allegheny (590) in fourth and Swarthmore (591) in fifth.
Freshman
Adam Gorman led the way for the Spartans as he was even for the tournament with a score of 144. Gorman shot 71 on Saturday and followed that with a 73 on Sunday. Gorman tied for 12
th in the 98-player field.
Senior
Gavin Ganter was the next Spartan finisher as he finished the weekend with a score of 151. Ganter was even on Saturday with a 72 before shooting 79 on Sunday. He finished tied for 34
th in the tournament. Senior
Jason Velez was one stroke back of Ganter with a tournament total of 152. Velez fired a 78 on Saturday and improved his score by four strokes on Sunday with a 74. He tied for 41
st at the tournament.
Junior
Jacob Fripp was York's fourth finisher as he was one back of Velez with a 153. Fripp carded a 77 in the opening round. He then shot 76 on Sunday as he finished tied for 45
th.
Sophomore
Thomas O'Connell was York's fifth finisher in the tournament. O'Connell shot 82 in the opening round and then tied Gorman for the best score in the second round with a one-over-par 73. O'Connell shot a tournament total of 155 as he tied for 49
th.
The Spartans conclude their fall campaign on Tuesday, October 15 and Wednesday, October 16 as they head to Havre de Grace, Maryland to participate in the Alvernia Fall Invitational at Bulle Rock Golf Club. The two-day tournament kicks off on Tuesday at noon.
