Field Hockey Blanks Misericordia 3-0 on Saturday

York put together a strong team performance in their non-conference win

Box Score DALLAS, PA – The York College field hockey squad got back on the winning side of the ledger with a 3-0 win at Misericordia University on Saturday in Dallas, PA.
The Spartans, who are ranked eighth in the country, bounced back from Wednesday's disappointing 1-0 loss at #2 Salisbury with a very balanced performance. In addition to York's three goals, the Spartan defense pitched a shutout as they didn't allow a shot.
York improves to 8-3 overall while the Cougars fall to 4-6.

How It Happened
• The Spartans dominated the first quarter but didn't have anything to show for on the scoreboard. York out shot the Cougars 6-0 in the opening 15 minutes and also drew five penalty corners in the quarter.
• The Green and White broke through midway through the second quarter as Sam Ward played a ball into the circle. The ball was deflected by a Cougar defender but Riley Buschert, who was crashing the cage, picked up the loose ball and drilled home the chance for her team-leading seventh goal of the year.
• The Spartans out shot Misericordia 12-0 in total shots and 3-0 in shots on goal. The Spartans also had six corners in the opening 30 minutes of the game.
• York got their second goal on a hustle play by first year Spartan Claire Burrows as she created a Cougar turnover at the top of the circle. She took a few touches before driving the ball into the back of the cage for her second goal of the year. The goal came in the 35th minute of the game.
• The Green and White closed out the scoring in the 55th minute as the Spartans drew another penalty corner. Ward inserted the ball to Buschert at the top of the circle. She slid a pass over to fellow senior Libby Wild who drove a shot into the goal for her third goal of the year.
• York finished the game with a 21-0 bulge in total shots including a 7-0 margin in shots on goal. The Spartans accumulated 14 penalty corners for the match.
